Victor Chandler International (VCI), named after its current chairman and the grandson of the original founder, is a privately owned British bookmaker which dates back to 1946 and boasts a turnover in excess of £1 billion ($1.6 billion) among 500,000+ customers in over 160 countries.
Following the relaxation of gambling laws in the United Kingdom via the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act (1963) the company built up a retail estate of betting shops heavily concentrated in Southern England. Although dwarfed in size by other British industry players such as Ladbrokes, VCI were the pioneers of industry change for European bookmakers.
During the early 1990s, VCI saw the potential of untapped foreign markets and opened a division in Antigua so that bets could be taken without the players being subject to the 9% UK betting tax. In 1996 they took the further step of moving their entire operation to Gibraltar, so that all their customers could enjoy tax free betting, and were followed by other industry players in the following years to the point where gambling services is now one of the primary industries in Gibraltar.
Similarly, VCI were one of the first established bookmakers to identify the growth potential of the internet and now offer an extensive online service covering all major sports from soccer, cricket, MLB, NFL, NBA and soccer through to Gaelic football and Spanish Futsal in addition to casino and poker offerings. Their strong emphasis on customer care, they are an excellent option for the recreational and inexperienced bettor.
