Centrebet is an Australian bookmaker located in Alice Springs, Northern Territory which gained a telephone license in 1992 and was one of the first sportsbooks, and the first in the southern hemisphere, to go online in 1996. In 2003 Centerbet merged with SportOdds in a AUD$46.55 million deal and while both identities were kept under their respective brands, the bets offered were consolidated over time and so in terms of the sportsbook offerings, SportOdds acts purely as an alternate skin for Centerbet with a consolidated support network.
The offerings of Centrebet expanded internationally but SportOdds remains specifically directed to the domestic Australian market where current laws prevent firms offering certain gambling services to domestic players. Centrebet is unable to offer its full portfolio, which includes casino/poker and live betting, to domestic customers due to the provisions contained in the Interactive Gambling Act (2001).
Although majority of the turnover of the Centrebet group comes from domestic operations, just around a third of revenues come from the Nordic region and it remains one of the few online sportsbooks offering wagers on the more Scandavian sports such as bandy and floorball.
